Frances "Gerry" G.  Mayes

Dundalk - On Aug. 4, Frances G. “Gerry” Mayes, 71, passed away in her Essex home after a three tear battle with cancer.

Gerry was a homemaker and dog trainer born to Alexander P. and Frances R. (nee Jednoralski) Studzinski and raised in Dundalk. She is a graduate of Dundalk High School (Class of 1960) and attended the Baltimore Business College. She was employed as a business accountant at Monumental Life Insurance Company before retiring to stay home and raise her son. Gerry also enjoyed training and showing dogs (Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Shelties, border collies and papillion), competing throughout the US and Canada and earning many title and awards in obedience, confirmation and agility. Gerry became a dog obedience instructor for the Dog Owners Training Club of Maryland in the 1970s and was later elected to the board of directors. She became an agility instructor for the Catoctin Kennel Club and for the Oriole Dog Training Club. She also owned and trained cockatoos and parrots.

She was also an avid country and ballroom dancer and dance instructor known for her “Polka Hop.” Gerry enjoyed going to casinos and to Ocean City. She was known for her happy, full of life personality and will be missed by all, especially Jim, her husband for 52 wonderful years.
