Dietz, Margaret Marie -
Perry Hall - On Sept. 18, Margaret Marie Dietz (nee Kahl), 94, of Perry Hall, passed away at Bel Air Assisted Living in Bel Air.
Mrs. Dietz was born on Aug. 15, 1920, on Harford Avenue in Baltimore City and moved to Perry Hall in 1924 when her parents Elizabeth (nee Zimmerer) and Michael Kahl purchased a 40-acre farm. She attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from the 8th grade before returning to work on the farm. She was an excellent cook and helped her mother care for her younger brother and sister. She met her future husband, Jackson L. Dietz, Jr., in 1939 and married him at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in 1942, after his enlistment in the Army. They lived in their home in Perry Hall, three-quarters of a mile from her parents’ farm, until 2010.
After raising her two children, Margaret worked at St. Joseph’s rectory for 22 years as a cook and housekeeper and also chaired the church’s semi-annual chicken dinners. She was devoted to her family and hosted family picnics each year with her husband (who passed away in 2003); the tradition has been carried on by her children, nieces and nephews, and Margaret only missed one of these celebrations. She was also a 49-year member of T.O.P.S. Chapter 51 and enjoyed gardening (flowers and vegetables), fishing and crabbing on the Eastern Shore’s rivers.
Survivors include a daughter, Jackie M. Anderson and her husband William, and a son, Michael W. Dietz and his wife Susan Rappe Dietz, both of Fallston; brothers Leo M. Kahl, Sr. and the late Norman F. Kahl and a sister, Loretta D. Rutkowski, all of Perry Hall; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
