Essex - On Jan. 15, Roy D. Rowan, Sr., 95, of Essex went to his eternal reward, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Rowan was a World War II veteran who served in the Pacific theater and was awarded The American Defense Service Ribbon; American Theater; Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with a Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal World War II.
He also volunteered at the Riverview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for over 30 years as part of the Essex Church of God worship team. He and his wife also collected blankets and clothing to distribute to the homeless in Baltimore City and opened their own home up to those who needed a temporary place to stay.
He is survived by daughter Andrea Reid and her husband Bill of Laurel, Del.; Ronald Rowan and his wife Gail of Middle River; Roy D. Rowan, Jr. and his wife Trish of Alaska; Robert D. Rowan and his wife Yvonne of Florida; James Rowan and his friend of Essex, Vivian Spratley and her husband of Virginia and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great -grandchild. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Elsie, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rowan, a son Roger, and a daughter Paula Collins.
Visitation was held on Jan. 21 at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P. A., 1407 Old Eastern Ave. in Essex, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
