Smith, Mary M.
Dundalk - On May 30, Mary M. Smith (nee Donoghue) passed away suddenly. Mary grew up in Dundalk and graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1946. She married Earl Smith in 1947 and moved into the farm house on Bird River Road where Earl was born. She learned about farm life quickly, chasing pigs up Bird River Road, raising chickens and canning her family’s food. She and Earl purchased Luke’s tavern in 1968 and changed its name to Earl’s Bar, and the couple would devote the majority of their life together to running this tavern and fulfilling Earl’s dream.
When her children were young, she was active in their schools and as a Girl Scout leader, and after retirement Mary stayed very active, volunteering with the Salvation Army (including collecting Christmas gifts at White Marsh Mall for the Angel Tree) and at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where she helped with the food pantry, prepared lunches for the homeless and made quilt prayer shawls. She was also a member of Victory Villa Senior Center, Victory Villa Redhatters and the Rosedale Redhatters.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Earl Smith; devoted mother of Mickey Smith, Diane Scott and Linda Felts; devoted grandmother of Todd Scott, Jason Smith, Jamie Kilmon, Joey Smith, Jeremy Smith and Audrey Felts; devoted great-grandmother to Jeff Scott, Cole Kilmon, Drew Kilmon, Addison Smith and Alivia Smith.
Visitation was held at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc., in Nottingham on June 2 and on June 4 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where a funeral service followed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 8212 Philadelphia Road, Rosedale MD 21237.
