Pownell, Sr., Philip Franklin -
Elkins - On Sept. 1, Philip Franklin Pownell, Sr., 82, of Elkins, W. Va., passed at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Korean War and worked for Western Electric for 30 years. He was a member and active volunteer in the food ministry of Middle River Baptist Church.
He was born Aug. 3, 1933, to the late Charles Darwin Pownell and Mamie Ruth Hansford Pownell Morrison. He was the beloved husband of the late Inez Nelda Kalar; companion to Mary Johanna Nelson of Elkins; father to Philip Franklin “Frank” Pownell, Jr. and wife Juanita “Wendy” and Teresa McKissack and husband William “Bill;” brother of Terrill L. “Terry” Morrison and wife Wanda; grandfather to Patrick Pownell and wife Emily, Courtney Steininger and husband Chip and Corey Pownell and wife Deanna. Also survived by three great-grandchildren and a greet-nephew.
Visitation and a funeral service were held at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Elkins and at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, P.A., of Essex. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be left at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
