Butcher, Paul E.
Middle River - On Thursday afternoon, June 20, Paul Butcher, loving uncle, friend and Master Decorative Carver passed away of a massive heart attack in his sleep. He is survived by his loving nephew Collin, family and friends.
Paul was a down home West Virginian at heart. He loved carving, fishing, camping, gardening and making home brewed spirits. The beautiful carvings he made and which his wife Debra, who preceded him in death three and a half years ago, would assist in painting, were well known for over 20 years. He began carving at age 12 with no formal training. He loved to teach and share his knowledge and considered his students (ranging in age from 48 to 95 at the time of his death) part of his family, particularly Sandie Butt. He also had a love of gardening which was evident to all who visited his house in Middle River.
Paul’s wishes were to be cremated without a service. He wanted his friends to remember him as the character he was. If you would like to remember Paul, please make a donation in his memory to either the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum or The Upper Bay Museum.
