Applegate, Michael -
Perry Hall - On Dec. 26, 2013, Michael Applegate passed away. Born Feb. 14, 1951, he was the third of ten children to a proud Irishman, the late Roy Applegate, and his wife Geraldine. He inherited his father’s Irish pride and gift of storytelling. In addition to his mother, he is survived by six brothers and three sisters. Also survived by his lifelong friend Tommy Nicholson and his best friend Gary Nicholson.
He was a 1970 graduate of Perry Hall High School, where he wrestled and played football. He earned the nickname “Muva Hayes” because of his tenacity and aggressive style of play.
Michael was a fixture of the local Perry Hall bar scene, where he bartended and made many friends over the years. He continued to play local football, preferring to throw crushing blocks rather than score touchdowns. It solidified his image and nickname, “Hoghead.”
He was employed as a plumber for Baltimore County. His hobbies included fishing and bartering at yard sales. Highlights of his life inlcude “The Seven son Run” at the local St. Patrick’s Day parades.
Services were private. A celebration of Mike’s life was held Feb. 15 at the Gunpowdrer VFW Hall, where he spent time helping out and socializing.
