Kroen, Thomas G.
Dundalk - On Nov. 24, Thomas G. Kroen, 89, passed away. He was a devoted Dundalk resident (although he moved to Essex in 2007) who volunteered with many groups such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Greater Dundalk Community Council, Eastfield-Stanbrook Civic Association, the Hart-Miller-Pleasure Island Citizens Oversight Committee, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center committees, the Harbor Dredge Materials Management Program, the Holabird Business Park Project Review Committee and a variety of county task forces on development and environmental issues. He was the Dundalk JayCees’ Outstanding Citizen in 1993 and the Dundalk Optimists’ Citizen of the Year in 1997 and was honored by the Dundalk Youth Services Bureau. He was also a proud World War II Navy veteran, serving as a seaman in the Pacific.
Tom attended Polytechnic High School and University of Baltimore and worked at Crown Cork and Seal and Baltimore Asphalt Company. He collected stamps and duck decoys, but mostly he collected friends.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Hazel; sons Thomas, George and Chris Kroen; daughter-in-law Emilie; grandson Matthew and brother Charles Kroen. His daughter Mary Angela and brother George predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10003 Bird River Road in Middle River, on Thursday, Dec. 10th at 11 a.m., with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace – Thomas Kroen Memorial.
